Parade floats win big

VERGENNES The winners of the annual Vergennes Memorial Day Parade float juding contest were announced following the huge parade on Memorial Day in Vergennes. First place went to the Northlands Job Corps Center in Vergennes, second place to the Vergennes Rotary Club and third place the the Vergennes Lions Club. The contest is part of the annual Vergennes American Legion sponsored event that puts on the largest Memorial Day celebration in Vermont. Following the presentations at City Park, the Vergennes Lions Club drew the winners of their annual truck raffle. For many years the club has raffled off a used vehicle to help in the funding of the various Lions Club programs. Four hundred tickets were sold at $30 each. This years first prize was a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, it was won by Jen Russell and Stacey Stearns of Ferrisburgh. The second place winner was Raymond Cousino of Lincoln, winning $500 in cash. The third place winner, receives a $500 savings bond from the Chittend Bank in Vergennes.
