Post 31 Defeats Bellows Falls 6-3 Rutland Post 31 scored three times in the first inning and went on from there to defeat Bellows Falls Post 37 6-3 in American Legion baseball action last Thursday in Westminster. Rutland jumped all over Post 37 starter Andy Mohn in the first inning. Chad Ryan walked and Ryan Carter was hit by a pitch. T.J. Oliver then singled home Ryan with Carter going to third. Zak Aquistapace then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Ryan, making it 2-0. Mike Cirelli followed with a double that scored Oliver, giving Rutland an early 3-0 lead. Mohn showed some wildness in the third, and behind three walks and another hit batsman Post 31 added two more runs for a commanding 5-0 lead. But Bellows Falls scored twice in the third and once in the fourth off Rutland starter Joe Rodolfy, cutting the lead to 5-3. Carter came on in the fifth inning in relief and shut the door on any further comeback attempts from Post 37. Carter faced just nine hitters, retiring them all, eight of them by strikeouts. His performance was as dominant as is possible and secured the win for Rutland.
