RUTLAND Vermont Wood Energy Corporation of Rutland is the first company to apply for Vermonts enhanced job-creation incentives under the states new Green Vermont Employment Growth Incentive VEGI for short program. If approved, the companys job creation incentives will be supported by the Vermont Economic Progress Council. The states innovative job-creation program was first proposed by Gov. Jim Douglas and passed by the legislature as part of the governors Vermont Economic Growth Initiative. The increased incentives available to green technology companies like Vermont Wood Energy was the reason I proposed the Green VEGI as part of my stimulus package, and Im very pleased the legislature agreed to enact it, Douglas said. Douglas said wood pellet and pellet stove manufacturing represents an opportunity for Vermont to foster growth in the renewable energy sector; it will also create new investment and jobs.
