Fair Haven to host "National Night Out" event

FAIR HAVEN On August 5 the community group Fair Haven Area Neighborhoods (FAN) which includes the Rutland County towns of West Haven, Benson, Orwell, Hubbardton, Castleton and Fair Haven will host its National Night Out event in Fair Haven Park. The event is a public gathering to heighten drug and crime prevention by building awareness and strengthening neighborhood spirit through police-community partnerships. This is the sixth annual family oriented FAN event; it starts at 6 p.m. with free hotdogs and ice cream. There will be music, games, and activities hosted by organizations involved with crime prevention and drug abuse. Highlighted will be entertainment relating to prevention and promoting health and safety; various agencies in the area will organize these activities. FAN members also plan a fun, family oriented information hunt with various prizes. The Fair Haven event will wind up with a block-party style dance; the conclusion is scheduled for 9 p.m. The National Association of Town Watch originated Fair Havens National Night Out.
