County teams to enter dragon boat race

BURLINGTON Come witness the spectacle as over 2000 competitors paddle for glory in Burlingtons third annual Citizens Bank, Lake Champlain Dragon Boat Festival Sunday, August 3 at Burlingtons Waterfront Park. Cheer on 81 Vermont community teams and 15 Breast Cancer Survivor teams as they compete in 250 meter sprint races to benefit the Cancer Patient Support Programs Emergency Fund and Dragonheart Vermont. Teams from Addison County include Danforth Pewter Lionhearts, DR Power Paddlers, Porter Hospital One-eyed Flying Purple Paddlers, Middlebury Family Health Floating Healers, Co-operative Insurance Blazing Paddles, Dragins of Monkton Community Team and the Goodrich Corporation Winged Lady of the Lake. Last years Festival raised $40,000 for the Vermont Respite House. This years honorary Pledge Partner is the Cancer Patient Support Programs Emergency Fund a vital service available to those in need as they go through their cancer treatments. Citizens Bank is again this years presenting sponsor. Other sponsors include Fair Point Communications, Sheraton Hotel, Select Design, Ben and Jerrys, Lake Champlain Transportation Company with WCAX, WOKO, and Vermont Woman. Local participants include: DR Power Paddlers (Country Home Products) The DR Power Paddlers are a diverse group of employees from DR Power Equipment in Vergennes. Danforth Lionhearts (Danforth Pewter) The Danforth Lionhearts are a mix of Danforth coworkers, family, and friends. Blazing Paddles (Co-operative Insurance Companies) Once again, theyll try to live up to their claims departments fast and fair motto. Winged Lady of the Lake (Goodrich Corporation) Goodrich Corporation female employees just want to show off their paddling skills.
