Boutique kicks off youth wellness plan

SOUTH BURLINGTON Candles and Creations, a boutique located in the Blue Mall in South Burlington, announced the launch of its Vermont Youth Wellness Public Awareness Campaign. The campaign targets Vermont media with comprehensive resources, information, story ideas, and contacts comprised of northeast Vermont and statewide youth-wellness issues and initiatives. The goal is to help further generate awareness for Vermonters in regards to youth-wellness struggles, solutions, and successes in conjunction with Candles and Creations mission: to use economic prosperity to form a community nexus for art, philanthropy, and wellness. Earlier this month, owners Heather Paine and Casey Webster introduced Spirited Living, Inc., the mission driven corporation which encompasses Candles and Creations, Dragonfly Candles, and CW Creations. Spirited Living, Inc. is committed to giving back 15 percent of gross profits to non-profit organizations and philanthropic programs throughout Vermont. The Youth Wellness Public Awareness Campaign will provide comprehensive information to Vermont media this fall in alignment with back-to-school topics and issues. Vermont 2-1-1 is pleased with the effort Candles and Creations is putting forth to help the media, and ultimately Vermonters, have information and knowledge of the issues and solutions affecting Vermont youth, said MaryEllen Mendl, director of Vermont 2-1-1. (Vermont 2-1-1 is a simple number to dial for information about health and human service organizations in local communities; its a program of United Ways of Vermont.) Candles and Creations opened in the fall of 2007 after Paine of Dragonfly Candles (formerly Dragonfly Gifts of Vermont) and Webster of CW Creations forged a mission- driven union utilizing art to create wellness while giving back to the community. Candles and Creations features Heather's palm-wax candles, Casey's jewelry, and showcases an upscale product variety created by 50 other talented Vermont artists. The store houses an open studio, an enchanted children's corner, and a welcoming room which doubles as a meeting room and a wellness practitioner space. Laura Cheney and Ali Marchildon, co-founders of Flashbags, two of the many mission driven artisans represented in Candles and Creations said, The philosophy of this unique gift shop is aligned with Flashbag's mission to create high quality products with social and environmental consciousness. The products that we make and Candles and Creation's carry provide opportunity for customers to feel like their dollars are contributing to the greater good of the community. We share with Candles and Creations the desire to stimulate commerce with a heart. The Flashbags business, the popular handmade handbags which carry a conversation, is based in Winooski.
