Big UVM sale is plant lover's delight

BURLINGTON The Friends of the Horticulture Farm will sponsor its fourteenth annual benefit plant sale Sunday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the UVM Horticultural Research Center (the Hort. Farm) at 65 Green Mountain Dr. in South Burlington. The sale features a wide variety of ornamental trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals from nurseries and greenhouses throughout Vermont. Proceeds from the public sale will support plant collections maintenance and site enhancement projects at the farm, as well as on-going research and educational activities. Each year, FHF receives choice donations from growers and nurseries throughout Vermont. They offer rhododendrons, dwarf conifers, fruit-bearing shrubs, vines, and a wide variety of perennials for shade and sun. Last year, about 90 retailers, growers, and home gardeners donated plants. Members will get the "first pick" of donated items and special discounts at a members-only preview sale from 9 to 10 a.m. on Sunday. To join or find out more about the farm visit: gwww.friendsofthehortfarm.org or call 802-864-3073. The event will be held rain or shine
