Auction helps children at risk

RUTLAND An unusual live auction was held July 22 at South Station Restaurant. The event was the areas first benefit for Childhelp, a national organization. The benefit was presented by auctioneer David Choma. Childhelp is a nonprofit organization founded in 1959 by Sara OMeara and Yvonne Fedderson, two actresses appearing on the popular 1950s television show, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. The mission of Childhelp is to meet the physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs of abused, neglected, and at-risk children in the Rutland area. This was the first Childhelp-sponsored event in Vermont coordinated by five Rutland-area women Gail Gillam, Kathy Wood, Irene Gold, Janet Spangler, and Jay McGarrey. Live entertainment at the auction was provided by Duane Carleton, Brian Hobbs and Bruce White.
