Clinton County Fair opens Tuesday

MORRISONVILLE The Clinton County Fair will return for its 61st year next week at the Clinton County Fairgrounds on Fairgrounds Road. The fair will be held from Tuesday, July 22, through Sunday, July 27. The fair will be open daily with events starting as early as 7 a.m. Opening ceremonies for the fair will be held at 6 p.m. July 22. In a recent press release, state Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker encouraged New Yorkers to visit their local county and youth fairs this summer. County fairs have always been a highlight of summer for me, the commissioner said. County fairs present an opportunity for communities to come together and take pride in their accomplishments, while also allowing the public to experience first-hand the importance of agriculture in our great state. From agricultural exhibits to an abundance of rides and food, a visit to your local county fair is sure to be an enjoyable experience for the whole family. Spanning the duration of summer for the next three months, 55 county and youth fairs will open their gates to millions of people all over New York. Last year, approximately 4.2 million New Yorkers visited county and youth fairs across the state. The commissioner also encouraged all New Yorkers to mark their calendars for the 162nd annual Great New York State Fair in Syracuse. This years fair, themed Theres Fun in the Air, will open Thursday, Aug. 21, and run through Monday, Sept. 1. The state fair attracts nearly 1 million people each summer. Annual highlights include the butter sculpture, a daily parade, animal shows, midway rides and a variety of food. New this year are major exhibits highlighting New York agriculture, innovation, tourism and green technology. There will also be exciting new entertainment ranging from medieval jousting and high-wire acrobatics to pig racing and science magic. During its 12 days of operation, the state fair will host international music stars such as Daughtry, the Jonas Brothers, Brooks and Dunn, Toby Keith, Rascal Flatts, Journey, Taylor Swift and Boston.
