Museum auctions Chinese kites

MIDDLEBURY There will be a silent auction of Chinese kites to Benefit the United Way of Addison County, through August 10, at the Middlebury College Museum of Art. The Chinese kites in this beautiful display, Wafting on the Heavenly Breeze: Hand-Painted Kites from China, are made using traditional materials, bamboo and silk and are hand painted with a variety of colorful designs. All are in the form of animals and birds and include mythological and symbolic themes. They range in size from fourteen inches to over six feet in width. There are also three very long (over 60 feet) concertina kites in the form of a dragon, a monkey and a centipede. All kites are capable of flying, but you may want one of them as a piece of decorative art. You can bid on these beautiful kites by visiting the museum. In addition to the silent auction, one kite will be given away through a raffle. Tickets are available at the reception desk of the museum. Cost $2 per ticket or $5 for three tickets.
