Girls camp teaches falconry and more

RUTLAND Dorset Nursing Association will be hosting its annual Visions Camp, a two week summer day camp serving girls entering grades 6-8. Visions is a mentoring camp that strives to give adolescent girls many different experiences and opportunities in arts, crafts and physical activities, and exposes them to accomplished female guest speakers to help strengthen their sense of self-worth, increasing the potential to make healthy choices across the spectrum of their lives. A highlight of this years camp is a full-day package sponsored by the Equinox resort including an introduction by New Englands British School of Falconry, archery, culinary skills, and recreational opportunities such as swimming, spa use, golf and hiking trails. Visions Camp will run July 28-Aug. 8 at the Manchester Elementary Middle School, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tuition is $250 for the two weeks and financial aid is available. Scholarships are made possible through donations, including a grant from the Stratton Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and sense of community in sixteen southern Vermont towns. As space is limited, early registration is recommended. For more information or a registration form, call Dora Cecchini, camp facilitator, at 802-362-3950, extension 224. Dorset Nursing Association, a branch office of the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, is a not-for-profit Medicare-certified home health agency providing health care services ranging from highly-technical skilled care to wellness programs in the Dorset, Rupert and Pawlet communities.
