Around the Town

Summerfest 08 this Saturday July has arrived and summer is in full swing. The long-awaited North Warren Summerfest 08 is this Saturday, July 12 at the Chester Municipal center field. The event includes childrens activities, entertainment, music, food and fun socializing. The day culminates with fireworks. Among the community groups to have booths at the event will be the Friends of Chester Library, who will be selling raffle tickets, as well as giving children free, gently-used books. A group representative said that there may be a visit from Mother Goose during the afternoon! The festivities begin at 4 p.m., and admission is free. Sunset concerts feature entertainment On Thursday, July 17, the free Sunset concerts begin at 7 p.m. at Dynamite Hill, Route 8, Chestertown. Aged in the Hills will be playing, and their country style is mixed with Americana, Cajun, blues, rock n roll, and Irish genres. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the night air. If there is inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Chestertown Municipal Center auditorium. Birthday, anniversary wishes Special Happy 18th Birthday wishes go out July 18 to Katharine Gallagher of Chestertown from her Mom, Dad, and friends. Good luck at LeMoyne University! Belated Happy 30th Anniversary wishes go to Barbara and Mark Davidson of Chestertown, as they celebrated that milestone July 1. Garage sales set for July 19-20 In addition to two enormous garage sales slated for July 19-20 being held at the Priory, off Route 8 in Chestertown, and the Rotary/VFW sale being held at the Chestertown Municipal Center the Friends of Chester Library will host a book sale at the Library. There will be no lack of activities in Chester for that weekend, either! Remember: Theyre still on duty Greetings from home go out to our young men and women currently serving with the Armed Forces, including Nolan and Logan Wemett, Tommy Bolton and Dan Carriger. As the Fourth of July remains fresh in our minds, and our flags snap crisply in the breeze, our thanks to you all and so many others who live the American ideal. If any reader has a family or friend serving in the Armed Forces, it would be great to acknowledge them, as well. Feel free to contact me with information. Carlozzi prepared portraits of classmates Nichole Carlozzi, North Warren Class of 2008, recently surprised her classmates by drawing portraits of each graduate, and displaying them in the atrium of North Warren Central School for graduation ceremonies. The 49 portraits were a year-long labor of love for Nichole, as she began work in September, and completed the final drawing in June. Nichole has taken many art courses at North Warren High the past four years, and her outstanding work showed her skill and craft. This closely guarded secret amazed her friends and their families, with the compelling likenesses of each graduate instantly recognizable. Nichole is the daughter of Barbara and Bill Carlozzi of Friends Lake. She is also the granddaughter of Millie Murphy of Chestertown and Mariann Carlozzi of Schroon Lake. Nichole will be attending SUNY Oswego in the Fall, majoring in Engineering. As a final gift to her classmates, she invited them to take their portraits home following graduation. Take care, North Warren readers, and enjoy these beautiful days.
