Mini-grants approved for seven agencies

PLATTSBURGH The Clinton County Health Department and the Eat Well Play Hard Program announced the award of mini-grants to seven different agencies in Clinton County. The grants, totaling approximately $15,000, were awarded to Peru School District, Beekmantown School District, Plattsburgh YMCA, Child Care Coordinating Council of the North Country, Northern Adirondack School District, Saranac School District and the Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department. The Eat Well Play Hard Program is a collaboration of community agency representatives who meet regularly to plan ways to integrate nutrition and physical activity opportunities for local children. All member organizations could choose to apply for this years competitive funding, which focused on inclusive and non-traditional physical activity enhancements. These grants will enable partners to create a healthier environment for area children. Some of this years grants included funding for activities such as cross-country skiing, a life-long activity; rotating playgrounds for toddlers to develop a love of physical activity early on and indoor activity options for inclement weather days.
