Kids' Chorale to perform in Keene Valley

KEENE VALLEY How are some North Country kids spending their summer vacation? About a dozen elementary and middle school students will be at the Keene Valley Congregational Church on July 9 at 7 p.m. to demonstrate their most recent summer pastime. They will be performing selections from Broadway shows and other vocal pieces as a culmination of their three-day Gotta Sing! workshop led by visiting music educator Deb Vanneman. Vanneman, of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, is offering the vocal workshop, which will include both choral music and Broadway excerpts to students between the ages of eight and 14. Vanneman is Director of Choirs and Musical Theater at Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly, New Jersey, where she has taught for 23 years. A conductor of a number of regional choruses in New Jersey, she recently traveled to Paris with her 18-voice a cappella Chamber Choir, a tour which included a concert at the Cathedral of Notre Dame. She has directed a number of musicals at RVRHS, including Les Miserables: School Edition, Children of Eden, Into the Woods, Guys and Dolls, and, most recently, Ragtime. Her choirs have performed for poet Maya Angelou as well as with Debby Boone and the late Rosemary Clooney. She has been a director and musical director with several different community theater companies in the Delaware Valley. "We're hoping to offer an intensive and fun -- intensively fun -- summer music experience for interested local students next week," said Ms. Vanneman recently. Music to be performed includes selections from the shows The Music Man, Children of Eden, Seussical the Musical, and Beauty and the Beast. The North Country students and their parents are excited to have Deb here in Keene Valley and to have a chance to work with her. Admission to the performance is free. Donations are encouraged.
