ESSEX JUNCTION Governor Douglas recognized the winners of Vermont's 2007 Youth Hunting Memories Contest on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Yankee Classic Sportsman's Show in Essex Junction. The Youth Hunting Memories Contest showcases the achievements of Vermont's youth hunters through their short essays, photos and art, said Douglas. In addition to the 14 young people who are receiving awards, we have 86 young hunters who submitted wonderful essays capturing their thoughts, passions and experiences about hunting. Perhaps most striking is the importance young hunters placed on family, friends and having fun outdoors," added Douglas. This is especially encouraging since family involvement is how many young people first learn about hunting, but also because hunting together creates lasting memories that will be cherished forever. Of the 86 entries received, 14 winners were selected - one representing each county. They will be receiving a Beagle Outdoor Wear fanny pack, Vermont Fish & Wildlife hat and the department's Guide to the Wildlife Management Areas of Vermont. All contest participants received complimentary passes, courtesy of the Classic, to attend the show and press conference.
