Real Property Tax Credit
Kathy Garrow sent this article from the NYS Chapter of NATP: The taxpayer may qualify for the real property tax credit if they are a New York State resident, their household gross income for the tax year was $18,000 or less, and they paid either real property taxes or rent for their residence. If all qualified members of the household are under 65 years of age, the credit can be as much as $75, but if at least one qualified member of the household is age 65 or older, the credit can be up to $375. If the taxpayer is required to file a New York State income tax return, prepare Form IT-214, Claim for Real Property Tax Credits for Homeowners and Renters, and attach to their return. If they are not required to file a New York State income tax return, file the Form IT-214 by itself. Part year residents and nonresidents do not qualify for this credit. For more information see NYS Publication 22 and the instructions for Form IT-214. New Book Available
