Lisa Brace joins STARS

Vermonts Child Development Division announced that Lisa Brace, owner and director of a registered child care home in Ferrisburgh, has joined Vermonts Step Ahead Recognition System (STARS) for child care, early education and school age programs with three stars of recognition. STARS providers are recognized for achievements in five areas: compliance with state regulations; staff qualifications and training; daily activities, interaction and overall support of children, families, and the community; how thoroughly providers assess what they do and plans for improvements; and the strength of the programs operating policies and business practices. Three star programs offer children and families a solid program while continuing to work on accomplishing specific goals. They have made substantial progress, either in two or three areas, or smaller improvements across all areas. Lisa Brace believes that children grow and learn by experiencing through their senses. Exploring, experiencing, interacting and observing through play encourage use of all five senses. Strong, nurturing relationships provide the opportunities through repetition and consistency to encourage children to grow and learn in a positive manner. Brace's play-based program is located in a separate space of her home and is a positive learning environment that is inviting, comforting and challenging. We are pleased to welcome Lisa Brace to the STARS program, said Kim Keiser, Deputy Commissioner of the Department for Children and Families. This achievement confirms their commitment to providing quality child care and education, and we look forward to many other Addison County child care, education and afterschool programs joining them. STARS is a Vermont initiative designed to expand the ways providers are rewarded for program quality. The STARS program is a public-private partnership created and led by the Child Development Division of the Vermont Department for Children and Families.
