Elizabethtown Town Board

Sixteen citizens attended the 2008 organizational meeting of the Elizabethtown Town Board which approved personnel appointments and contracts. The Elizabethtown Town Board unanimously voted to have public meetings videotaped gavel-to-gavel and shown on channel 16, the Charter Cable Government Access channel. Supervisor Noel Merrihew said that a copy of the videotape would be available in the town hall for anyone who doesnt have cable TV. There will also be a copy in the Library. Elizabethtown zoning regulations have been clarified and indexed by five volunteers,Gerry Allwell, Lee Norton, George Onni, Bill Hubschman and Frank Agnew, which they have worked on since August.The document will be presented at the next Board Meeting on Thursday February 21. The Town is now sharing a tax assessor, David Galarneau, with Westport and Willsboro. He is available in the Elizabethtown town hall on Wednesdays. The Town Board and Elizabethtown - Lewis Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Meet the Assessor evening on March 12 at the Cobble Hill Club House.Kris Hardman shared Chamber plans for 2008, which include better signs so travelers can find our businesses, and securing a display case to promote our area at the High Peaks rest stop on I-87. Elizabethtown officials will meet with DEC officials in Raybrook on Jan. 22 to discuss the New Russia water situation. Town officials will also meet with DEC later this month to discuss plans for the Elizabethtown sewer system.The sewer district will be the same as the current water district. The town will apply for grants to help pay the cost. Ten members of the Blueberry Hills Trails committee recently met and Sherry Amsel has designed an improved trail map, which is available in the town hall. Unfortunately, ATVs were driven on the muddy trails causing some damage. Paul Pulsifer is running Biddy Basketball from January to March for grades 1-6. The Golf Course lost six trees during the recent windstorm.The weight lifting club has painted the footbridge, removing the graffiti and the Boys Varsity Soccer team painted the warming hut at the ice rink.
