Athol-Thurman

Over the Fence
Needless to say with the temperatures reaching 60 degrees during the week of Jan. 7-11, its felt like spring except for the snow covered fields! Homeowners have been busy fighting swarms of cluster flies in the windows inside the homes - and on the outside trying to pry the ice buildup off the roofs. Sympathy is out to the two familys who lost their horses within the same week - the Athol white horse belonging to the McNeills was nearly 38 years old and the Bowen Hill horse belonging to the Beadnells was about 30 years old. A wake up call at 4:45 a.m. on Friday morning Jan. 11 Freezing rain had been a factor in the power outage in Thurman, which left us in the dark for 5 hours, coming back at 10 a.m. Temperatures stayed 30 to 40 degrees and those without wood heat felt the cold.
