Arrests made in donation can thefts

PLATTSBURGH State police have made two arrests in connection with the theft of donation cans from local Kinney Drugs stores. According to state police Investigator Joseph Rice, authorities arrested Joseph M. Rushlow, 27, 60 Shepard Ave., and Virginia L. Kohler, 27, 493 Soucy Road, Saranac, Jan. 19 at a home on Underwood Avenue. Rushlow was arrested on four counts of petit larceny, all misdemeanors. It is alleged Rushlow first stole a donation can for local cancer patient Brian Mehan Jan. 10 from the Boynton Avenue Kinney Drugs store. He later allegedly stole three other donations cans from Kinney Drugs locations at P & C Plaza, New York Road and the corner of State Route 3 and Military Turnpike. Kohler was also arrested on three counts of petit larceny. Investigator Rice said Kohler was found in possession of a hypodermic needle and spoon with an unknown residue at the time of her arrest. She was subsequently charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument. Both charges are misdemeanors. Rushlow and Kohler were arraigned on their respective charges in Plattsburgh Town Court before the Hon. Kevin M. Patnode and remanded to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
