Seniors can sign up for phone discount

Once again, Rutland County area senior citizens can save at least $13 on their monthly phone bills by making the annual application for the Lifeline Telephone Service Credit. All land line companies are included, but not all cellular phones. Rutland Country residents over age 65, whose income is less than $23,958 a year, or younger people with incomes under $20,535, can qualify. The form is in the back of the Vermont State Tax Booklet. Filing income taxes is not required to participate. Those over the age of 60 may also call the Senior Help Line at 1-800-642-5119 to request the form. The Senior Help Line is a free service of the Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging, serving Rutland and Bennington counties. E-mail: seniorhelpline@svcoa.org or www.svcoa.org .
