SARANAC LAKE Hockey fans and music lovers alike, pay close attention to this years' Saranac Lake Winter Carnival concert. The Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks is pleased to present the pop rock hockey-themed band "The Zambonis" for the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Dance Band Concert. The concert will be on Saturday evening Feb. 2 from 7:30- 9:30 p.m., at the Harrietstown Town Hall on Main Street. For the last 10 years The Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks has sponsored a dance band the first weekend of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival. Performing this winters is "The Zambonis" a power pop-rock quartet named after the ice-grooming machine, notorious for their collection of one of a kind songs reflecting their love for the sport of hockey. Few rock bands have been featured in both Sports Illustrated and Billboard. Few have played both punk-rock clubs and Harlem's Apollo Theatre. Few have appealed to fans young and old. But the quirky 100% hockey-rock Zambonis have somehow prevailed-impressing music snobs, sports freaks and critics simultaneously. The Zambonis formed in 1991 when defenseman/guitarist/singer Dave Schneider envisioned a group that played nothing but songs about hockey. And he wasn't joking. What started as a fun "little thing" is now the most popular sports-rock band in North America. Explaining his band's unique style, Dave says, "We're the only band in the world whose two biggest influences are The Beatles and Wayne Gretzky!" The band is composed of Guitarist and Zambonis' producer, Peter Katis, (Producer, chippy but solid defensemen)Dave Schneider, The Zambonis feature: Jon Aley (guitar, bass, winger), Steve Tanski (guitar, bass, forward), Mat Orefice (drums, enforcer) Tarquin Katis (hardcore vocalist, center). For the last seventeen years, The band has performed their unusual style of music nationwide and even has worked its way onto NHL, NCAA and minor league hockey arena playlists nationwide. For the true hockey fan, to hear and see this band is a must. For the casual fan, it's still one big unique sound and experience. Along with their history of national and international touring , the Zambonis are trekking to the winter wonderland of Saranac Lake to put on one tremendously entertaining performance. There might not be ice in the performance venue but their music will inspire you to dance and skate along the dance floor. If you wear a hockey jersey you will get $1 off the price of admission . Admission is $8 Adults, $6 seniors, 14 and under $4 and no more than $20 per family.
