One-thousand donations sought for Mooers Food Pantry

To the Editor: Over the Christmas holidays, our Youth Group Caf_Christians And Friends Everywhere) went on a mission trip to New York City. During our trip, we served at a neighbourhood dinner and had the opportunity to meet and speak with some of the homeless. Also during this time, we visited the second biggest feeding program in the country. While the shelter was closed for the holidays, we took this opportunity to do some big "spring cleaning." Since we were housed' at the shelter for the four days we were there, we had a chance to really see what it was like to live as the homeless do, including not showering. The trip was an overwhelming experience. Something we will never forget. We hope that we can continue to help those less fortunate, either far away, or close to home by just one act of random kindness at a time. One meal for the hungry, one conversation with a homeless person, one kitchen cleaning on New Year's Eve, and now one collection of one-thousand non-perishable food items for the Mooers Food Pantry by Jan. 31. It is our trip to NYC that inspired us to challenge everyone to collect 1,000 non-perishable food items for the Mooers Food Pantry during the month of January. We will be collecting items at the Mooers United Methodist Church, and/or we can be contacted by telephone or e-mail to arrange pick up if necessary. Please consider a donation. One act of kindness goes a long way. Lisa Delong
