Obituaries in the paper

Due to recent economic factors, it has become difficult for New Market Press, Inc. to offer space in its Vermont newspapers, including the Addison Eagle, for printing obituaries free of charge. We resisted following the direction most newspapers had gone years before in charging for obituaries but we now must take this step to help cover the cost of delivering a free community newspaper to more than 11,000 homes in Addison County alone. We believe youll find the cost is still well below what other newspapers in the market are charging. The cost for a standard 2 column by 7-inch obituary (approximately 300 words) will be $50. Larger obituaries will be charged at the rate of $1 per additional line. Photographs may be included but will impact the number of words allowed in the standard obituary. New Market Press will continue to publish death notices at no charge. The death notice will include the town, name, age, date of birth, date of death and final resting place of the deceased. These will be grouped, whenever possible, with the paid obituaries. Local funeral homes with established credit may charge and be billed for obituaries. Individuals or out of area funeral homes will be required to pay prior to publication. Thank you for this consideration.
