New York star sings to benefit youth group

PERU For the fourth consecutive year, Broadway and cabaret singing star Karen Mason will perform benefit concerts for the Peru Community Church Youth Group. Ms. Mason will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, and Saturday, Jan. 19, at Cricket's Restaurant, 697 Bear Swamp Road. Steve Collier, the church's organist and a gifted pianist will be her accompanist. Ms. Mason, who packed the house in her previous appearances, has titled this year's show, Just in Time. The concert's proceeds will help fund the youth group's April mission trip to Washington, D.C. Amanda Connelly, one of the church's Youth Group advisors, explained the mission trip will take place from April 12 to April 18. The 24 young people will work in a soup kitchen and homeless shelter, sort clothes, work in a daycare and help pack food at a food bank. One evening they'll distribute soup and sandwiches in a park.
