Katherine M. Barton named chairperson of Glens Falls Foundation

GLENS FALLS The Glens Falls Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of Katherine M. Barton of Silver Bay as chairperson of the Glens Falls Foundation. Barton is a 20-year member of the distribution committee of the foundation and her appointment fills the vacancy formerly held by the late Floyd Rourke. The Glens Falls Foundation is a non-profit community trust whose purpose is to improve the quality of life of people living in Warren, Washington and northern Saratoga counties. The foundation provides grants to civic and charitable organizations and scholarships to individuals. It is funded by bequests, contributions, and memorial contributions. Since its inception in 1939, it has provided approximately $6.5 million in grants and scholarships. Barton has served as chairman of the Pesquera Medical School Scholarship Committee for the Glens Falls Foundation. In addition to her foundation activities, she has served on the executive boards of the Glens Falls Home, Inc., the Chapman Museum, the Fund for Lake George, and the Glens Falls Club of College Women. She is a past fund raiser for the Hyde Collection, the Adirondack Girl Scout Council and the Mohican Council of the Boy Scouts of America. She was a co-founder of Women Helping Women. She was co-chair of the timing committee for the North Creek White Water Derby for 12 years. She is a member of the Silver Bay Association and the enhancement committee for the Town of Hague. Barton is the widow of Charles Barton Jr., past vice president of Barton Mines, Inc. She is the proud mother of three children, four grand daughters, two grand sons, five step-children, nine step-grand children, and eight great step-grand children.
