Bee colony collapse is topic of local concern

Natural beekeeping expert and author Ross Conrad gives a talk on Colony Collapse Disorder: the Current State of Beekeeping, and Organic Solutions at the winter meeting of the Champlain Valley Honey Bee Cooperative, on Saturday, Jan. 19. The talk takes place at Honey Gardens Apiaries Honey House in Ferrisburgh at 6 p.m., with a potluck blessing at 5 p.m., and a winter meeting of the cooperative at 4:30 p.m. All are invited to attend, and no fee is charged. Ross Conrad is the author of Natural Beekeeping, Organic Approaches to Modern Apiculture, published in 2007 by Chelsea Green Publishing. Conrad, a resident of Middlebury, Vermont, is an expert on the best organic and natural approaches to keeping honeybees healthy and productive. He learned his craft from the late Charles Mraz, world-renowned beekeeper and founder of Champlain Valley Apiaries in Vermont. Honey Gardens Apiaries is a mile north of Vergennes, and a half-hour south of Burlington, on the west side of VT Route 7. Look for Lucy the moose at the driveway.
