ACT seeks teen volunteers

Addison Central Teens (ACT) has been successful in attracting area youth to 94 Main St., its drop-in space located in the basement of the Middlebury Town Offices. On average, 40 teens gather after school to participate in special programs, hang out with friends, eat good food, do homework, or play pick-up dodge ball or soccer games in the Municipal gym. Special programs have included weekly drum circle, Chinese lessons, and yoga classes. Teens have also been planning dances and other special events during their Wednesday evening Youth Advisory Council meetings. Due to the overwhelming response of teens utilizing the center, ACT is in need of additional adult volunteers to provide supervision during 94 Mains drop in hours. 94 Main is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 3-6, Wednesdays 3-7 and Fridays 3-10. Volunteers will be working alongside Erik Shonstrom, center director. Volunteers are required to be 18 years old, and willing to undergo a mandatory background check. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to contact Jutta Miska at 545-2979. ACT will be holding a volunteer training on Thursday, Jan. 17, from 4-6 p.m. The training will be held at 94Main in the Russ Sholes Center. The training is for all current ACT volunteers, and anyone interested in becoming a volunteer in the future. Please contact Erik Shonstrom at 388-3910 to register.
