NFL Picks: The final tally is in, and the winner is...

Wow! The game of the year, Giants/Patsies last weekend. Sure I would have loved a Big Blue victory, but no way can I complain about the way the New York Football Giants played against, arguably, the best team in the league.

I think Coach Coughlin made the right decision to play his starters and give New England a run for their money in what was a meaningless game for both teams. On the other side, Coach Personality also was right to go all-out for the perfect season. What resulted was a hard-fought NFL football game with a playoff atmosphere.

Here in Upstate New York, John Gereau held off a charge by John Santasier and will forever be known as News Enterprise NFL Picking Champion of the 2007-08 season. Thatll have to suffice, because weve determined Denton Publications employees are ineligible for prizes, so well have a nice gift certificate to a local establishment for the first-place, non-Denpubs staffer, John Santasier. Ill have more on Johns reward next week. Who knows, maybe hell invite Gereau to dinner.

It was another great season of fun picking, with a host of long-time pickers, and a nice handful of newcomers. As usual, well keep picking throughout the playoff just for the fun of it.

This weeks Wild Card match-ups feature some interesting contests. Call me a homer, but I think teams should be worried about playing the Giants. Theyve been great on the road this season, and a trip to balmy Tampa should prove very rewarding, especially against a rusty team and an aging quarterback with back issues.

In the other NFC game, Washington travels to Seattle. Honestly, Id rather play Green Bay or Dallas than the Deadskins right now. Theyve got a good leader in backup QB Collins, and should come away with a road win themselves.
