Moriah claimed a pair of wins and Ticonderoga snared a victory in the Moriah Holiday Basketball Tournament. The event featured round-robin play rather than the traditional opening round and championship game. Moriah downed Westport, 38-34, Dec. 28. Chelsea McKiernan and Kaylee Sprague each scored 14 points for the Vikings. McKiernan had eight rebounds and four steals. Sprague had seven rebounds and three assists. Courtney Waldron had a strong game with six rebounds and five steals for the Vikings. Ticonderoga beat Willsboro, 51-29, the opening day. Kate Huestis, Samantha Diehl and Julie Thompson combined for 36 points for Ti. The Sentinels had a 19-13 lead at halftime. The second half proved to be a scoring frenzy especially in the fourth quarter for both sides. Ticonderoga out scored the Warriors 31-23 in the second half. Both teams were hot in the fourth quarter as the Sentinels scored 25 and Willsboro scored 16. Huestis finished with a game high 14 points, Diehl had 10 and Thompson finished with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Moriah beat Willsboro, 40-24, Dec. 29. Kaylee Sprague scored 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had four assists to lead the Vikings. Courtney Waldron had 10 rebounds for Moriah, which broke open the game with a 15-5 spurt to open the second half. Ticonderoga fell to Westport, 32-29, the second day. The Sentinels jumped to an 11-2 lead, but couldnt hold on. Ti managed just two points in the second quarter and only four in the third period as Westport rallied. Kate Huestis and julie Thompson each had 10 points for Ticonderoga. Schroon Lake 49, Beekmantown 33 Schroon lake downed Beekmantown, 49-33, in the Holiday Hoopfest at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid in girls basketball play Dec. 26. The Wildcats broke the game open with a 15-3 run in the second period. They led at intermission, 26-9. Jessica Mehm scored 15 points and Ashley Whitty added 12 for the winners.
