Garnet Hill announces winter schedule of programs and events for 2008

NORTH RIVER The Garnet Hill Lodge Cross-Country Ski Center in North River has announced a wide variety of cross-country ski and snowshoe programs and events for the 2008 season. The popular Wednesday Winter Walks will continue this season. Winter Walks is a free-guided senior (55+) snowshoe walk that begins at 10 a.m. and lasts for approximately an hour and a half to two hours. The walk is followed by a special buffet luncheon at the Lodge ($9). Winter Walks will continue every Wednesday thru March 2008. This year there will be a $5 charge for snowshoe rentals. Garnet Hill will continue its complimentary skiing for all children enrolled in the school districts of Johnsburg, Minerva, North Warren, and Indian Lake. This year Garnet Hill is offering three different kids cross-country ski programs welcoming children ages 5-13. Team Garnet Kids! Club is a nine-week childrens (ages 5-13) cross-country ski club. The club gets together most Saturdays beginning Jan. 5. Children will meet at the ski shop by 2 p.m. for an hour of cross-country ski instruction. Depending on the snow conditions, activities can include back-country skiing, skate skiing, fun races, or snowshoe adventures. Cost is $60/child for the season with discounts available for additional children in the same family. Additional information is available at the ski center or on the Garnet Hill website ( www.garnet-hill.com ) Garnet Hill will also be offering a home school and after school kids program on Tuesday's beginning Jan. 8. Again for children ages 5-13. The home schoolers will meet at 11:30 a.m. and the after school program begins at 3 p.m. Both programs will feature an hour of instruction followed by free skiing. Both Tuesday programs will run for two four week sessions each costing $25/child. Discount rentals are available come join in the fun! In addition, Garnet Hills Ski School features Kids lesson programs every weekend day and during the holiday weeks 10:30 a.m. Noon and by appointment. Adult lessons are taught daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Winter Trails is a national learn-to-ski or snowshoe event that takes place on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 at over 100 cross-country ski areas. Garnet Hill will be participating with free cross-country ski or snowshoe clinics all day. Additional ski events at Garnet Hill are the Gore to Garnet back-country Ski Tour (Saturdays mostly) and new back-country ski lessons on the weekends and holiday weeks or by appointment at the ski center.
