Area teams compete in holiday tournaments

Boys

Harwood 88, Au Sable Valley 58 Harwood defeated Au Sable Valley, 88-58, in boys basketball in the Hoops for Hopes Basketball Tournament at Au Sable Valley on Dec. 29. For AVCS, John-Michael Bresette scored 15 points, while Ryan Murphy scored 11 points. Josh Douglass, Murphy, Bresette and Ricky Lee were named to the All-Tournament Team. Saranac Lake 81, Willsboro 41 Saranac Lake defeated Willsboro, 81-41, in boys basketball in the Hoops for Hopes Basketball Tournament at Au Sable Valley on Dec. 29. Mitch Mitchell led Willsboro with 10 points, and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Au Sable Valley 78, Willsboro 42 AVCS defeated Willsboro, 78-42, in boys basketball in the Hoops for Hopes Basketball Tournament at Au Sable Valley on Dec. 28. AVCS was led by Josh Douglass, who scored 21 points and added nine assists. Ricky Lee scored 15 points and collected seven rebounds, while John-Michael Bresette scored nine points. For Willsboro, Mitch Mitchell scored nine points. Moriah 66, E'town-Lewis 45 Moriah defeated Elizabethtown-Lewis, 660, 45, in nonleague boys basketball on Dec. 27. Derrick Ratliff led the Lions with 17 points. Gilboa 43, Keene 35 Gilboa defeated Keene, 43-35, in boys basketball in the Olympic Center Holiday Hoopfest on Dec. 27. Jacob Earl and Schuyler Davis each scored 10 points for Keene.

Girls

Moriah 40, Willsboro 24 Moriah defeated Willsboro, 40-24, in girls basketball in the Moriah Holiday Basketball Tournament on Dec. 29. Jennifer Murphy led Willsboro with 11 points. Westport 32, Ticonderoga 29 Westport defeated Ticonderoga, 32-29, in girls basketball in the Moriah Holiday Basketball Tournament on Dec. 29. Martha McKinley led Westport with eight points while Rebecca White added seven points. Moriah 38, Westport 34 Moriah defeated Westport, 38-34, in girls basketball in the Moriah Holiday Basketball Tournament on Dec. 28. Christina Sherman was Westport's high scorer, netting 10 points. Ticonderoga 51, Willsboro 32 Ticonderoga defeated Willsboro, 51-32, in girls basketball in the Moriah Holiday Basketball Tournament on Dec. 28. Jennifer Murphy scored more than half of the Warriors points, netting 17 points. New Hartford 54, Au Sable Valley 36 New Hartford defeated Au Sable Valley, 54-36, in nonleague girls basketball on Dec. 28. For AVCS, Shannon Nutbrown scored 17 points, while Jessie Walton collected 11 rebounds. Brushton-Moira 42, Elizabethtown-Lewis 27 Brushton-Moira defeated Elizabethtown-Lewis, 42-27, in girls basketball in the second round of the Chazy Christmas Tournament on Dec. 27. Katie Gibson scored 11 points and Riley Diemand scored 10 points and added 10 rebounds for ELCS. Gibson was named to the all-tournament team. Westport 45, Beekmantown 37 Westport defeated Beekmantown, 45-37, in girls basketball in the first round of the Chazy Christmas Tournament on Dec. 27. Virginia Dorsey and Martha McKinley each scored 15 points for Westport, and Dorsey pulled down 12 rebounds. Tuxedo 44, Au Sable Valley 41 Tuxedo defeated Au Sable Valley, 44-41, in girls basketball in the first round of the Chazy Christmas Tournament on Dec. 27. AVCS was led by Shannon Nutbrown, who scored a game-high 22 points. Chateaugay 47, E'town-Lewis 26 Chateaugay defeated Elizabethtown-Lewis, 47-26, in girls basketball in the first round of the Chazy Christmas Tournament on Dec. 26. For Elizabethtown, Kelsey Gibson scored nine points. Plattsburgh 41, Westport 37 Plattsburgh defeated Westport, 41-37, in girls basketball in the Olympic Center Holiday Hoopfest on Dec. 26. Virginia Dorsey scored a game-high 15 points. Martha McKinley scored nine points. Lake Placid 67, Keene 22 Lake Placid defeated Keene, 67-22, in girls basketball in the Olympic Center Holiday Hoopfest on Dec. 26. Carrie Shackett led Keene with 10 points, while Emma Nye scored seven.
