SCHROON LAKE The Schroon Lake Fish & Game Clubs 16th annual ice fishing derby will be held on Schroon Lake Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2. Fishing will start at daylight Saturday and end at 4 p.m. Sunday, at which time all fish must be weighed in at the clubhouse. All fish must be caught in designated waters of Schroon Lake. Tickets, including children who have tip ups out, must be purchased prior to fishing to be eligible for prizes. People do not have to sign in at the clubhouse before fishing. Tickets for pre-registration are $10 through Feb. 24 and $12 after. People can register by mail by sending a check payable to Schroon Lake Fish & Game with a printed list of entrants to Bunny Supernant, PO Box 203, Schroon Lake 12870. Mail-in entries will be available for pick up at Flanagans Pub Feb. 29 and at the clubhouse March 1 and 2. There will also be late registration at the clubhouse, where tickets will be available until March 2. There will be three categories of fish trout, salmon and northern pike with three cash prizes in each class determined by weight. There will also be a cash prize for the heaviest pickerel and perch. Prizes will be 75 percent of entries. Legal sizes and take in Schroon Lake are 15 inches for salmon with a limit of three, 18 inches for lake trout with a limit of two and 18 inches for northern pike with a limit of five. There is no size requirements for perch but there is a limit of 50. There are no limits on pickerel. Because of the large number of entries, no lake trout or northern pike less than 24 inches will be accepted. Awards will be presented at 4 p.m. Sunday at the clubhouse. Door prizes donated by area merchants, members and club friends will be drawn each hour each day. A list of prizes will be available at the clubhouse. People interested in donating prizes should contact the fish and game club. Weather permitting, marked vehicles will be on the lake to pick up fish and take them to the clubhouse to be weighed so anglers do not have to leave their fishing areas. Pick up will end at 3:30 p.m. each day. Fish will be displayed at th club with each anglers name and ticket number until they are picked up. Live bait will be available. A spaghetti dinner will be served at the fish and game club at 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $7 each. the club bar will be open beginning at noon each day. Fishermen are asked to remember VHS disease and all state Department of Environmental Conservation regulations. Anglers are allowed no more than 100 bait fish at a time and bait must come from a certified bait shop or come from Schroon Lake itself. Smelt caught that day in Schroon Lake can be used as bait.
