Backcountry ski fest planned

KEENE VALLEY The Mountaineer and Cloudsplitter Mountain Guides will host the 6th Annual Adirondack Backcountry Ski Festival on March 1 and 2. There are a limited number of openings in the ski clinics being offered over the weekend, including the intermediate backcountry ski tour and the Karhu traverse. On Saturday evening, Backcountry Magazine and Karhu will feature an evening presentation by Nils Larsen at Cascade Ski Touring Center on Route 73 between Keene and Lake Placid. Nils has produced three previous films about backcountry skiing and has skied in remote ranges around the world. Tickets for the show are $10 at the door, which will open at six for those who want to socialize before the show and enjoy the $12 meal provided by Cascade Ski Touring. Nils show will begin immediately following a raffle at 7:15 p.m.. The Skifest is a charity event supporting the Adirondack Ski Touring Council and the New York Ski Educational Foundation. This years sponsors include major contributors Primaloft and Backcountry Magazine as well as Karhu, Black Diamond, Marmot, Garmont, Scarpa, Mammut and Voile.
