Blakely double-double not enough to beat Stony Brook
STONY BROOK, N.Y. Stony Brook trailed by as many as 11 in the second half but came back to defeat the University of Vermont mens basketball team 71-70 in overtime in America East action on Sunday afternoon. The victory snaps a 10-game losing streak for the Seawolves, while the Cats drop their third straight and are now 12-13 overall and 7-6 in league play. ALBANY, N.Y. Junior Amy Rosenkrantz and sophomore Courtnay Pilypaitis scored 17 points each to lead Vermont past Albany, 68-48, in America East womens basketball action on Saturday. Vermont improved to 17-7 overall and took sole possession of second place in league play with an 8-3 mark. The Catamounts snapped Albanys five game win streak as the Great Danes fall to 9-15 overall and 7-4 in America East. At home, St_erg nets game-winner
BURLINGTON Sophomore Viktor St_erg, of Sweden, scored the game-winning goal for the second straight game and senior Joe Fallon stopped 19 shots, including 11 in the third period, to give Vermont a 2-1 victory over Merrimack in front of a sellout crowd of 4,003 at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Hockey East action on Saturday night. The Catamounts are 6-2-2 in their last 10 games and improved to 10-11-7 (9-7-5 HEA) overall. Merrimack fell to 10-15-3 (4-15-2 HEA) with the loss.
