Crash victims identified

Vermont State Police and Middlebury Police officials identified three individuals killed in a car crash in Middlebury during the storm Feb. 13. Driver Dereck Busier, age 31, of Bristol lost control of his vehicle on Route 7 in Middlebury near Hendy Brothers, Inc., a farm tractor dealer. Busier apparently lost control of the car, which then crossed the median. The car was hit by an on-coming vehicle. Busier and passengers Jennifer Traverse, age 28, and Justin Traverse, age 10all from Bristolwere pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Police said that Justin Traverse was the only passenger in Busiers car wearing a safety belt. The driver of the on-coming car was injured and being treated locally. His life was not in danger, according to police. Icy highway conditions, at the height of the Feb. 13 ice and snow storm, were a likely cause of the tragedy. Vermont road crews are facing diminishing stockpiles of road salt after a succession of heavy winter storms.
