City to hold public informational meetings on the Moran Plant redevelopment proposal

BURLINGTON The City of Burlington will be holding an additional informational meeting for residents to learn more about the Moran Plant redevelopment proposal. Burlington Mayor Bob Kiss will host the meetings. The City Council has placed the proposal on the March 4 Town Meeting Day ballot as an advisory question. The informational meeting is on Monday, February 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Contois Auditorium at City Hall. The Citys proposal would redevelop the building and site to includean indoor ice and rock climbing facility, a childrens museum, outdoorice skating rink, splash water park, public park, caf_nd restaurant, and retention of the Community Sailing Center currently occupying part of the building. The proposal would also result in significant improvements at and near the site, including upgrades to the bike path, road surfaces, pedestrian walkways, and a completely redesigned and rebuilt skate park. Burlington Mayor Bob Kiss encouraged the public to attend the meetings: This is a good opportunity for the community to learn more about this proposal which I believe will promote economic development, bring people to Burlington and our Waterfront, and benefit the community as a whole, the Mayor said. I hope that people will learn more about the proposal, ask questions about it, and have their questions answered. At the meeting, Mayor Kiss will be joined by proposed tenants of the building -- Ice Factor, the Green Mountain Childrens Museum, and the Community Sailing Center -- as well as City departments involved in the redevelopment plan.
