Winter Carnival endures despite weather woes

LAKE GEORGE Organizers looked forward to colder temperatures this weekend in hopes that the weather issues that have dampened this years month-long Winter Carnival would ease. Mixed precipitation Tuesday and Wednesday added to sloppy conditions on the lake and along the lake shore that caused some events last weekend to be postponed or altered. The one-two punch of unfavorable weather conditions and the Super Bowl kept attendance down at last Sundays scheduled events. But those who did make the effort were rewarded. Chuck and Julie Small made a detour to Lake George on their way from Philadelphia to visit family near Rochester. Weve been here in the summer but wanted to see what it was like this time of year, Chuck Small said. Small said the area is perhaps more beautiful in the winter. Sunday, with the sun poking through overcast skies, the Smalls enjoyed a stroll in Shepard Park. Its quiet, Small said. But thats not a bad thing. This weekends planned AMA Sanctioned Motorcycle Ice Races have been cancelled because of the weather but as of press time, other events were going to continue.
