Lady Warriors thump Burghers

LAKE GEORGE The Lake George Varsity Girls Basketball team cruised over rival Warrensburg 63-38 Tuesday, dramatically avenging a December loss (31-37) to the Lady Burghers. The win positions Lake George as the top contender for the upcoming Adirondack League championship series. While Lake George Center Chrissy Scanlon, a six-footer, was held to 3 points in December by an aggressive Warrensburg defense, she scored 10 points during the first quarter alone in Tuesdays rematch. Lake George Coach Rob Tefft said it was due to his teams better spacing on offense. But the Lake George team fought hard on the other end of the floor as well. They held Warrensburg to a mere 5 points during the first half. We got off to a good start, and our defensive intensity level was high, Tefft said. We had a lot of zip and energy. Adding to the heavy point margin was Brittany Cracco, who scored four 3-pointers. Lake George Forward Megan Stover tallied 20 points and 20 rebounds. Factoring in the turnaround from December, Tefft said, was simply improved teamwork and better shooting. The Warriors had a 4-6 record at Christmas, but a month later was leading the league alongside Warrensburg. Warrensburg Coach Scott Smith said Lake George presented a lot of different challenges for his team. We had a real tough time stopping them in the inside -- it was hard to contain them with their height, he said, noting the Warriors intense, physical play. And their defense shut us down early, and we had a rough time getting into our offensive stride -- they really pressured our guard. Smith said that his team, which until Tuesday had the best record in the league, was now looking forward to league playoffs and sectionals. Were gearing up, he said. Warrensburg faces North Warren on Tuesday, followed by a league crossover game Saturday at the Civic Center. Lake George will be taking on Luzerne Tuesday, and if they win, will represent the leagues western division in the league championship game Friday night.
