Church clothing store expands hours

PERU St. Augustines Church has significantly expanding the hours of its St. Vincent DePaul clothing store. The store is now open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The store will remain open 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. The change in hours was effective Feb. 4. Wed like to reach out to more people," St. Augustines pastor, the Rev. Alan Shnob explained prior to the change. "We get so many donated clothes we need to expand hours. The store offers good quality donated clothing priced at $3 per bag. Clothing is easy to locate because its displayed by size and type. The Rev. Shnob explained the store also sends excess clothing to Birthright, the Salvation Army thrift store and the Methodist church in Keeseville. Last spring, a tractor-trailer load of clothing was shipped to the St. Marys Mission in Champlain. Jamaican apple-pickers often stop by to purchase clothing to ship to their families back home. A few weeks ago, the store was able to assist a family whose home had burned down. The St. Vincent DePaul building is located adjacent to the St. Augustines rectory at 3035 Main St. The Rev. Shnob said in order to expand the stores hours of operation, additional volunteers are needed to both sort and sell clothing. Anyone who would like to volunteer to assist the program is asked to call Scarlett McBride at 643-6678.
