Chamber of Commerce plans progressive dinner

WESTPORT Establishments in Westport didnt host a progressive supper during Christmas, but will be rolling out the welcome mat later this month to make up for it. The Westport Chamber of Commerce will host a progressive dinner Friday, Feb. 29. The storm date is March 1. The annual event, usually held during the holiday season, was previously organized by former Westport Hotel owner Rita Warren, who sold the business last year. Chamber president George King said the chamber decided to take over the popular fundraiser. Unfortunately, we realized it in December when there was no dinner planned, so we decided to hold it sometime after the first of the year. Since this is a leap year, the 29th seemed an appropriate choice, said King. Along with hosting a meal at two local businesses, the evening will conclude with a Sadie Hawkins-style dance at the Westport Heritage House. Appetizers will be served from 6-7 p.m. at the Inn on the Library Lawn. Diners then move onto the Westport Hotel from 7-8:30 p.m. Dinner choices include chicken marsala or London broil on toast points. After dinner, the evening concludes with dessert by Chris Snye at 8:30 p.m. at the Westport Heritage House. A dance at the community center room, with disc jockey Jim Carroll, will finish the night. A cash bar will also be available. The event benefits the operating fund of the Westport Chamber of Commerce. Attendees are also encouraged to bring a canned good for the Westport Food Shelf. King said chamber organizers hoped local residents would turn out in good numbers and that all will have a great meal and fun dancing. Right about this time of the year, those of us who do not rush to the southern climes are being attacked with a bout of cabin fever. And for the most part we have not seen many of our neighbors during the winter, said King. The cost per person is $40. People interested in enjoying just dessert and dancing can attend for $10. Reservations and advanced payment are required before Feb. 20. To make reservations, call King at 962-2316, or e-mail kinggeo@westelcom.com .
