Meet Dr. Anjana Poonthota

NORTH CREEK Hudson Headwaters Health Network recently welcomed a new pediatrician to the area, Anjana Poonthota, M.D. Poonthota received an M.B.B.S degree from Guntur Medical College in Andhra Pradesh, India, her M.P.H from the State University of Albany, and finally her M.D from Albany Medical Center. She has since commenced her practice in the North Country as a vital part of the Hudson Headwaters pediatric team. Born and raised in India, Poonthota had been interested in becoming a doctor ever since childhood, although both of her parents were involved in business. When I was around it in college, I became even more interested in medicine, said Poonthota. During my rotations in India, I fell in love with working with children. Children are the future, and Im so happy for making the choice to go into pediatrics. During her time at Albany Medical Center, Poonthota found herself charmed by the area. I fell in love with the Northeast; I was taking a tour in the Hudson Headwaters area and it hit me that there are so many people here without health care that really need it. Health care is not a privilege, its a right, and there are children here who are missing out on proper care. For me to be able to help these people out is wonderful, she said. So far, working for Hudson Headwaters has proved an immensely gratifying experience. Job satisfaction: Thats me! I like to get up in the morning and be happy to go to work. I started out everyday driving to these little villages, and one of the best things is that everyone is so appreciative; the little things are appreciated so much, Poonthota said. Being in such an isolated area hasnt deterred Poonthota at all, in fact, much to the contrary. I just love it here, she said. Its so peaceful, and I dont mind the snow and cold at all. And I cant wait for the seasonal changes, Ive heard so much about how beautiful it is. Dr. Poonthota intends to continue practicing for Hudson Headwaters Heath Network for as long as fate allows. It is my goal to make Hudson Headwaters my home base. The reason I chose this is that its what Ive been dreaming of for my whole life. Im so happy coming to work here. All of my fellow pediatricians have had a great background working here, Poonthota said. Residents can make an appointment with Dr. Poonthota at the North Creek, Chester-Horicon, or Warrensburg Hudson Headwaters Health centers. Excited and enthusiastic about the future, Poonthota is grateful for being given what she feels to be an incredible opportunity. Im looking forward to many great experiences here in the North Country, and I just want to do the best that I can do, she said.
