Leicester truck crash may have involved alcohol

On Jan. 26, at approximately 11:27 p.m., Vermont State Police responded to a one-vehicle crash on Fern Lake Road in Leicester. Investigation showed that Michael Laporte, age 47 of Leicester, was enroute to Shorehamdriving a 1977 Ford dump truckto pick up his ex-wife who had also been involved in a collision an hour earlier. She was later brought to the New Haven VSP barracks for processing for DUI and Possession of Marijuana. Michael Laporte failed to negotiate a curve and went off the side of the road, taking out a mailbox and a line of pine trees. The vehicle then flipped over and came to rest on its roof. Laporte had to be extricated from the vehicle by Brandon Rescue. Brandon Fire stood by on scene due to gasoline leaking from the vehicle. Laporte was taken to Porter Medical Center for tests and was given a citation to appear in court for Driving with a Suspended License as well as suspicion of DUI.
