Town of Plattsburgh offering fun-filled winter break

PLATTSBURGH - Wondering what you or your children can do to stay busy during their break from school this week? The town of Plattsburgh has some suggestions.

For more than 30 years, the town of Plattsburgh has been providing activities for its residents, explained Melanie Defayette, program coordinator for the town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department.

This week, many activities have been planned, including floor hockey, snowshoeing and archery.

"[The town] always strives to offer fun and affordable recreational programming throughout the year," said Defayette. "It's as important to be active and to have fun in the winter as it is in the summer."

Both floor hockey and indoor soccer will be offered for youth ages 10-13 at the Morrisonville Elementary School gym, located at 47 Sand Road, from 1-2:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 29, through Wednesday, Dec. 31. Pre-registration is not necessary, so you can just show up and spend a couple hours having fun and getting some exercise.

The town is also providing cross-country skiing and snowshoeing sessions at the Cadyville Recreation Park on Goddeau Road, Monday, Dec. 29, and Tuesday, Dec. 30, from 1-3 p.m. Equipment will be provided free of charge. Pre-registration is required for this event and the caller will need to provide the height and shoe size of the participant as well as the date they wish to participate. Sessions will be filled on a first to call, first to choose the day basis.

Another activity planned for Dec. 29 through Dec. 31 is ice skating, from 11 am. to 12 p.m. Ice time at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh Fieldhouse on Rugar Street will be provided free of charge. Skate rentals will also be available for free.

Finally, an instructional archery class will be held at Gander Mountain at Champlain Centre mall Dec. 29 and Dec. 30 from 6-7 p.m. This event is for youth ages 10-13 and equipment will be provided free of charge. Pre-registration is required as space is limited.
