Mission possible: Build your own stone wall

HINESBURG - Stonemasons Charley MacMartin and Troy Headrick are offering a series of stone wall building workshops in Hinesburg in January and February. The hands-on workshops introduce participants to the basic techniques for building dry-laid stone walls, with a special focus on stone native to Vermont. Sessions will take place inside heated greenhouses at Red Wagon Plants on Shelburne Falls Road.

Participants in last year's workshops included homeowners and area landscapers looking to strengthen their stone work skills.

Both MacMartin, the owner of Queen City Soil and Stone, and Headrick are certified in dry stone wall-building through the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain.

"Charley MacMartin is not only a skilled stone artisan, but he's also a patient, caring, and inspiring educator," said Jim Flint, executive director of Friends of Burlington Gardens.

Workshops will be held on Saturdays on the following dates: Jan. 10, Jan. 24, Feb. 14 and Feb. 21. Space is limited. For registration information, contact Charley MacMartin at 802-318-2411.
