Culinary students take second at competition

PAUL SMITHS - A team of culinary students from Paul Smith's College received a silver medal during a culinary competition held in Buffalo Dec. 13. The team was coached by Chef Stuart Slutzky, CEC, CCE.

The competition, hosted by the American Culinary Federation's Greater Buffalo chapter, was held at Erie Community College. Students were expected to complete a meal for four, as well as demonstrate a range of kitchen skills.

The Paul Smith's team fell to a team of working chefs competing as the Greater Buffalo Chapter of the ACF; while that squad also captured a silver medal, they outscored the Paul Smith's team by two-tenths of a point.

The Buffalo team moves on to the northeast regional competition. From there, the winner of that competition competes in the national finals.

Justin Panasiewicz was captain of the Paul Smith's team. Other team members included Justin Congdon, Andrea Vanbenschoten, Jackie Carlile and Chris Foo (an alternate). Students Zack Warner and Jen Del Rosario provided support.
