PLATTSBURGH - The Battle of Plattsburgh Association, sponsored by KeyBank, is once again offering an essay contest to local students regarding the Battle of Plattsburgh in 1814. There are three categories: Grades 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
The topic is to assume the persona of a Plattsburgh community member in 1814, whether it is a powder monkey, drummer boy, citizen of the community, or son/daughter of a merchant or military member. Essays are to follow the criteria designated by the Education Committee.
The North Country Teacher Resource Center has sent posters and applications to the tri-county school districts requesting student involvement. KeyBank has offered prizes in each of the three categories: $200 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third place in each category.
Deadline for entries is Jan. 15. All entries are to be sent to: The Battle of Plattsburgh Association, 31 Washington Road, Plattsburgh N.Y. 12903. For further information, call 566-1814.
