Ti to issue trash reminder

TICONDEROGA - Ticonderoga residents will soon be getting a gentle reminder when they purchase trash tickets.

The town board has agreed to have a message printed on the tickets, required for disposal of trash at the town-operated transfer station on the Vineyard Road, telling people of a law requiring all refuse to be covered during transportation.

The reminder is necessary, Ti Supervisor Bob Dedrick said, because trash is flying out of trucks en route to the trash station, leaving debris along the side of the road.

"We've had several complaints of garbage and debris flying off of trucks," he said. "We just want to educate people. If you go up Route 9N and the Vineyard (the route to the trash station from the hamlet of Ticonderoga) you see a lot of trash along the side of the road. It's uncalled for."

Dedrick said the town board will ask the Ticonderoga Police Department to enforce the law.
