RUTLAND - Last month, the annual Governor's Youth Leadership Conference (GYLC) was held at the Sheraton Hotel Burlington. This conference is the largest statewide conference for high school student.
The GYLC Planning Committee included Rutland County SADD Chapter members Cliff Billings and Amanda Zuber of Proctor High School, Krista Brayton, Vicky Stone, Ashley Haas, and Erika Stocker of Stafford Technical Center, and Nikita Howard and Angelina Valente of Black River High School.
Students from Fair Haven Union High School, Rutland High School, Otter Valley Union High School, Proctor High School, Stafford Technical Center and Black River High School attended the conference.
Billings and Stone greeted conference-goers in costume as the Hero Bear and Larry the Crash Test Dummy. Students who attended the "Mock Crash" presentation found that Zuber and Brayton were co-presenters and played part as crash victims.
Those who attended the "Mock Underage Drinking Party" presentation found Stocker, Billings, and Justin Cram, of the Stafford Technical Center, presenting in roles of party-goers.
The conference attendees might have also found Haas, Brayton, and Valente serving as facilitators for breakout sessions. Stocker operated the cloakroom and Valente collected the donations chapters collected for the Shareheat Program run through CVPS, which was this year's community service project for the conference. Billings also acted in a mystery presentation that was offered between large group presentations.
