A picture perfect Christmas

Our latest snow storm puts us picture perfect for the Christmas card scene that a lot of us picture in our memories of a white Christmas. The big tree in the memorial downtown park looks so great a night, along with all the little trees along the river bank side down to the Band Stand area. Every evening that I go out for an evening meeting, more and more homes have their outside decorations on display. More and more families have the big lighted blow up outside decorations, some are huge.

The Kiwanis fruit shipment is now in and being delivered, it is very tasty and a great fund raiser for the organization. The Pleasant Valley Chorale held their two holiday concerts this past weekend, titled "Many Moods of Christmas". My sister and I attended the one at the Essex Community Church , it was a wonderful Holiday event.

This is a joyous time of the year for many, but there are several in our community that have recently lost loved ones and it is not so joyous. A suggestion for those that find the holiday a hard time, think about attending the "Longest Night" or sometimes call the "Blue Christmas Service." This special program will be held at the Willsboro United Church of Christ on Dec. 21 at 5 p.m. Participants will make a memorial ornament and then take part in a soup and salad supper at 6 p.m. and then at 7 p.m. a reflective service with music and candle lighting. Rev. Steve Smith, Chaplin & bereavement coordinator with the Essex County Office of High Peaks Hospice will be their special guest speaker.. Public is invited to this free event, these are very meaningful services. Most of the local churches are having candle light services on Christmas Eve hopeful many will plan to come join us.The Willsboro & Reber United Methodist Churches once again this year participated in the Family First Christmas program, of adopting a family so that they might enjoy a joyous Christmas.
